To make a long story short, my wife is from the US and we have 2 kids. I wanted to expose them to one of the greatest Canadian events of our lifetime but the economy got in the way.
I had a mini trip to the Olympics lined up, but a week before we were suppose to go, I got laid off.
Being responsible for a family, a mortgage and car payments, I had to cancel our trip. We made the best of of it and watched hours of coverage, decked the house with Canadian flags and the kids wore Canada shirts for 2 weeks!
We still had a blast, but I was deeply disappointing that I could not get them there. It was hard to miss a once in a lifetime opportunity in your own backyard.
