Why would I be excited about the games? My applications to be a volunteer and torchbearer were rejected. Roads and hospital beds were being closed in my city.
The video chronicles my journey from being self-centered, to actively participating in a larger community of people. I came to the realization that the games were not about us as individuals, but of a world united to celebrate excellence in sport and to cheer on a nation.
I don't think I am alone in feeling these emotions or in having this experience.
This video was edited down from the original 2 minutes (which I may post on YouTube eventually). It contains a fraction of the pictures I took during the games, but they are among my favourite. Enjoy!
My thanks to the organizers, volunteers and athletes for an amazing 2 weeks and of course to the Royal Canadian Mint for allowing us to see the actual medals and for this contest.
Gold Canada Gold!
